Tesla Sentry Mode vs Dashcam Differences
Most new owners treat these as the same thing, but they behave very differently.
Most new owners treat these as the same thing, but they behave very differently. Sentry Mode is for parked security, while Dashcam is for on-road evidence, so think of one as a guard and the other as your driving witness. In winter, Sentry Mode can hit your battery harder because the car stays awake, and cold temperatures make the drain feel bigger. Dashcam runs only while driving, so the energy impact blends into normal use. Storage is shared. Running both means the same USB drive is taking more writes, so you want a fast drive with plenty of free space. If you park outside overnight, use Sentry when you need it, and let Dashcam handle the rest of your daily driving.
