How to Format USB for Tesla Dashcam

Formatting on the Tesla screen is the simplest path if you are already in the car.

Formatting on the Tesla screen is the simplest path if you are already in the car. Steps:

  1. Plug your drive into the glovebox USB-A port.
  2. On the touchscreen, go to Controls > Safety > Dashcam and select Format USB Drive.
  3. Let the car create the TeslaCam folder automatically. If you format on a computer, use exFAT (or ext4) so the car can read it, and make sure the TeslaCam folder exists. If the Format button is greyed out, the car does not detect a compatible drive. Try a different port, reseat the drive, or use a faster USB device.
